Missão no Japão / Mission in Japan – Vlog #1

I have arrived in Japan. And that means that in places where not a single disciple of Christ walked, now I’m walking. Now there is someone praying uh for the people who are walking on the street, making their way to work, taking a rest at the park.
And for most of these people, I’m the first person in the world to pray for them. Have you thought about that? I’m the first person in history in the world praying for a lot of the people that I’m crossing paths with and with whom I will become friends in this new country.
When I heard the call for missions in Japan for the first time, this country was known as a missionary graveyard. Testimonies of decades of service uh resulting in just one baptism were not at all infrequent.
But many people prayed Luke 10:2 where Jesus tells his his disciples to ask the Lord of the harvest to send more workers into his harvest. And now I’m here. That means that God is bringing workers into his harvest. And that means that there is a harvest.
The landscape in Japan is changing. And that means that the spiritual battle, spiritual warfare is going to go up, not down. But that would only be a problem if we were fighting on the losing side. But we’re fighting on God’s side. And the good news is that in the end, God wins. Truth wins. Justice and love and faith win. And I we are fighting on that winning side, on the side of love and faith and truth and justice. And I’m here in Japan sewing those seeds. And you spread throughout the world are laboring for me and with me in prayer, in spiritual and emotional support, and in financial support. And that’s why I want to say thank you so much for being in this journey with me. What a blessing to be able to count on you and your strength and friendship.
And as we say here in Japan, Yoroska. So the things that are happening here as I serve are fruits from my ministry and also of your ministry. And believe me when I say the fruits are already starting to show up. Not only has everything been going extremely well ever since my arrival, you know, as I get settled into this new place, God has just made every step of the process so easy and provided abundantly to meet all of my needs. I arrived here in rainy season and it has been indeed a shower of blessings. In my arrival, I have already been able to witness spiritual fruit in the shape of people of peace that God has placed on my path and in the path of other teammates of mine.
People who already in these last few weeks have heard the complete gospel for the first time in their lives. People who have heard of Jesus for the first time in their lives. And people who are open to this message, open to relationship with us. God is truly showing me that my my stay here is not in vain and that he had people ready to put them in my path and to whom I came to minister. Uh since arriving, I’ve even been able to witness a lady accept Jesus as her savior. So right at my arrival, God is making it clear that the doors in Japan are open not only for my arrival but for the entry of the gospel.
Lord, thank you that you are here. Holy Spirit, thank you that you would move today. Lord, we open up our hearts to you, Lord. Thank you that you would enter into our hearts today.
I spent so long praying about this calling and getting ready to come to the mission fields. I waited for so long and I dealt with so many questionings and somehow I arrived at just the right time. The field is ready for harvest. My ministry here will be fruitful and your ministry of sending me will be fruitful and it already is being fruitful. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
In Japan, there’s over 110 million people uh who have never heard the gospel, the message of the gospel even once. And now I’m living among them. I’m living in a Japanese neighborhood. I’m shopping in Japanese supermarkets or convenience stores as they call them here. I’m catching the train and the subway with Japanese people. I’m attending a Japanese church. I have Japanese friends and I can even begin to uh speak Japanese.
So, I want to ask you to mainly pray for these topics for my language learning. It has been so good. I’m really thoroughly enjoying it. I’m having so much fun in class and studying and I’m even starting to be able to function in Japanese on my day-to-day life, you know, going to stores and with friends. But it has been very intense. It’s a lot of content being crammed in my brain every day. And that has been a bit of a contributing factor for my trouble managing my sleep schedule which has ended up generating some tiredness. So if you can please pray for that. Uh when I started after my first week of language learning, I had catastrophic insomnia. After the first week, I was really struggling to fall asleep cuz my brain just wouldn’t shut up. And I shared this with my teammates and they said, “Don’t worry, you are not the first person. You’re not even the first person on our team to experience terrible insomnia after the first week of intensive language learning.” So, that definitely made me feel at least not so alone.
Also pray for the people with whom I’m crossing paths and becoming friends. May the Lord be blessing and leading these interactions so that his name is known and glorified. Also ask God for more people of peace here in Yokohama. For more people uh to receive us missionaries to receive the message that we bring and even especially to also receive this mission you know uh to undertake the same mission of becoming themselves missionaries in their circles.
Pray for our missions team and for all of the trials and spiritual battles that we are being subjected to because of our work here in Japan for the kingdom of heaven because uh there are battles, you know, not just me but every single one of my teammates.
And also pray for the Lord, you know, pray Luke 10:2. Pray for the Lord to send more workers into his harvest because it is big and this harvest is ready but indeed there are not enough workers. And pray for believers, Japanese believers and for the church here in this country. A few days after I arrived here, I took part in a conference with every IMB missionary in Japan. And a sentence that stuck with me was said by the IMB missionary that has been in Japan the longest. Uh he and his wife serve here, have served here for over 44 years. And he said if we think we give a lot, we give very little compared to the average Japanese person who decides to follow Christ. So the decision to follow Christ in Japan is not one of little consequence. And the survival of the church in this country demands that the believers pay a price, a personal price that might not be necessary in other countries. So pray for perseverance, joy, boldness, and growth for the church here in Japan.
Throughout the almost two months that I’ve already spent here, I’ve had the chance to experience a lot of new things. Uh those who are part of the WhatsApp group where I’m sharing, you know, more regular news may have recognized some of the footage on this video, some of the places I visited, the services on our new church plans in Sunsima and so on. Those who are not in that group will be able to uh enter it through the QR code at the end of this video. But yeah, in this time I’ve had a lot of experiences, amazing experiences as well as not so good experiences.
But the main thing I have noticed is that despite the challenges, each day has been better than the day before. Each day that goes by, I’ve been feeling happier and happier to be here. Uh more and more able to appreciate the beauties of this place. Each day I’m growing in satisfaction in Christ and in expectation for everything that he is yet to do. And so therefore, I can truly make Paul’s words mine in 2 Corinthians 4. And to wrap this up, I will leave you then with this passage here slightly adapted to our mission in Japan. And I hope it’s an encouragement to you guys in the way that every single one of your decisions, be them directly related to supporting the mission in Japan or not, have eternal consequences.
And I, as a missionary sent by you, want to encourage you to excel in your administration of this great responsibility and privilege that we have, which is to die for ourselves and to live for Christ. And so, here’s the passage.
“We are hardpressed on every side, but not crushed. Perplexed, but not in despair. persecuted but not abandoned. Struck down but not destroyed.
We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’s sake so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.
So then death is at work in us but life is at work in the Japanese.
It is written, I believed, therefore I have spoken.
Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak.
Because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with the believers in Japan to himself.
All this is for the benefit of the Japanese so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen.
Since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
